Who is it for ?

Anglo Thai Foundation is a UK registered charity

Founded in 1990 by a group of Thais and Westerners, the Anglo-Thai Foundation is a UK registered charity whose purpose has been to help the children in Thailand’s poorest North Eastern region achieve a better future through sponsorship of their education.

Children from the poorest of rural families are often taken out of school at a young age to help with their family’s struggle for survival. Without an education these children are left vulnerable and open to exploitation. The ATF provides support by way of a yearly financial grant which ensures they will be able to attend school and have a choice in their own future.

As well as sponsoring over 550 children’s education, from primary school level to further education, the Anglo-Thai Foundation also supports clean water projects to ensure safe drinking water for schools and kindergartens, hardship grants for extremely poor or disabled students, grants for libraries and textbooks and the building ofnew toilet blocks and nursery rooms. In addition to helping whole schools these projects benefit the local communities going some way to alleviate the extreme poverty in some of their villages.

Case Study One Max

Max is seven years old and lives in Buriram province, North East Thailand. His teacher says he is one of the brightest children in his class but comes from a very poor family. Both his parents are rice farmers but have to travel to Bangkok to work as casual labourers out of the rice-growing season. Max lives with his grandmother and older brother in a simple wooden house. The ATF found him a sponsor this year and now provide money to pay for the basic necessities such as a school uniform, books and stationery and lunch. Thanks to their generosity of our supporters children like Max can remain at school and continue their studies.

Case Study Two Patchareeda

Patchareeda, a 9-year-old girl from Surin province North East Thailand, lost her leg in a road accident when she was 4. A kind ATF sponsor sent her a pair of crutches and the Foundation has paid her a yearly disability grant over the last 2 years. While ATF trustees were in Thailand earlier in 2008 we took her to a top specialist in Bangkok where she was assessed and given a new pair of crutches. As she is still growing, her progress will be monitored closely. She continues to attend her school and one day, when her doctors think she’s ready, will be fitted with a prosthetic leg.
