Introducing the Angels

Niall

Niall is a former Royal Marine and has travelled to many countries in both a social and business capacity; he first travelled to Thailand in 1997 and instantly fell in Love with the Thai culture, people and food. He made many Thai friends both in Thailand and back here in the UK. Niall started to go to Thai festivals here in the UK to learn more about Thai culture. Niall has been riding motorbikes since 1999. Since 2004 Niall has been travelling to Thailand 2 or 3 times a year. Niall learned to scuba dive in Phuket at a dive school which had been hit by the devastating Tsunami. Niall is a director of Thai Scuba Divers in Lamai Beach Koh Samui. Niall wanted to understand more about the Thai culture and see how he could help in any way.

Niall started to learn a lot more about Thai culture and found out that many of the girls working in the bars were from Isarn North East Thailand, many were poorly educated and in order to help their families (who are hundreds of miles away) worked under terrible conditions, many of these girls were helping younger brothers and sister through school.

Due to the hot weather in Isarn there is only one rice crop per year so children’s parents migrate to Bangkok to work as labourers (poorly paid). Schools and education will help these children have a better start to their lives, better than their parents and older sisters and brothers had.

Niall visited a Thai temple in London with his friend Korn and found out about the Anglo Thai Foundation, Niall has personally sponsored 2 children and his business has also sponsored 2 children for 3 years now. Niall had the idea of a sponsored motorbike ride across Thailand to raise the profile of Anglo Thai and funds for the children. Niall looks forward to your support and thanks you for any help or donations you can give. Khap khun khap

Personal Profile : Name: Ms Korn (Kornkanok) Sriwan Tillyer
Title: Therapist at The Rejuvenation Spa at the Baglioni Hotel, Kensington

Korn (Kornkanok) Sriwan Tillyer is an exceptional therapist, with a passion for her profession, a passion that grew out of caring for her father in Thailand. Korn originally studied and worked in journalism, however, her father had an accident in 2001 after which the doctor and physiotherapist suggested regular massage as part of his recuperation process. After months of battling Bangkok traffic and spending days at the temple where her father received massage therapy, Korn decided to study massage herself, at the world renowned temple, Wat Po. Here, she learned that there are 107 nerves joined together in the body and which ones she should focus on. After intense study, she then became qualified to treat her father herself. Korn would spend one hour every morning treating her father before going to work. However, her career in journalism was cut short as she realized she could not devote herself to a career where she felt she couldn’t make a difference and express herself in mind and body.

Project Profile : The Motorbike Angles ride for Education

Education has always been of the upmost importance to me. As I came from a very small and poor village. Many of the local children cannot afford schooling.

Myself and my friend (Niall) went to the Thai temple and we saw the brochure from Anglo Thai Foundation. And we decided to support some of the children. My friend had an idea of a bike ride through Thailand to raise money for Thai children’s education.

As I am now in a position to help (In a small way) I would like to give something back to the children of my country. We hope to raise money through sponsorships from the companies we work for also our friends and families.

Gordon

Gordon, motorcycling since 1987 (wow doesn’t time fly) travelled to many different countries on & off bikes.

I lived & worked in Indonesia & got married there to a Javanese girl (Yuliyah)Two years as a VSO volunteer working as a mechanical skills trainer in smk sanjaya secondary technical school also the in country motorcycle trainer.

The link with Thailand was formed when Stephen (my brother) visited Gordon in Indonesia & promptly fell in love with SE Asia he has now settled in Thailand.

Having a brother in Thailand & a wife from Indonesia means all holidays spent in Asia (hard life aint it ?)

So the story goes, on my Christmas Holiday in 2007 I was visiting my brother Stephen in Koh Samui where he now lives. My cousin Niall was in Koh Samui at the same time.

Whilst having a beer with my cousin Niall he explained

about an idea he had to ride motorbikes through Thailand and raise money for a charity he was involved with called Anglo Thai… The motorcycle trip was then born !!!

All kind donations are greatly appreciated please make donations to
